Walk By Faith 3-6 Lesson

Children's Church Lessons

Kids' Corner 3-6 Grade Children's Church / Sunday School Lesson

Verse: 2 Corinthians 5:7, “For we live by faith, not by sight.”

Additional Scripture: Matthew 14:29-31

Objective: Kids will understand that living by faith means trusting God’s direction and obeying His Word, even when we can’t see the outcome.

Spark

“Blindfold Obstacle Course”

Directions: Split the class into pairs. One student is blindfolded (the "Walker"), and the other is the "Guide." The Guide must use only their voice to lead the Walker through a simple obstacle course of chairs or cones.

Transition: Ask the Walkers, "Was it hard to move when you couldn't see the floor? Who did you have to trust to get to the finish line?" Just like you had to listen closely to your partner's voice to navigate the obstacles you couldn't see, today we’re looking at a Bible story about someone who had to trust God's voice and follow His lead without knowing exactly where they were going.

Scripture (5-7 minutes)

Open your bible to 2 Corinthians 5:7

Read: For we live by faith, not by sight.” (walk: NASB)

Explain:

What is faith?

  • Trust, belief, hope, conviction of truth, relationship with God, that He is Lord and Savior!
  • Not just words but actions. Ex: Faith isn't just saying you believe in a chair; it’s actually sitting down in it.
  • Faith moves you, SHOWING we BELIEVE GOD, it’s measurable.

What does it mean to "Live" or "Walk"?

  • “Walking" means how we conduct our lives every single day.
  • We are moving, listening to God’s will and following His directions.
  • Being "alive" isn't just having a heartbeat; it’s being made alive through the Holy Spirit. We are “alive to Christ” when we obey His Word.
  • Ask: If your friends watched your "walk" this week, would they see you moving toward God and His ways or just wandering around?

What is "Sight"?

  • Sight is what we see with our physical eyes—our circumstances, our problems, or even our successes.
  • Sometimes we stop praying because we don’t see an answer immediately. That is living by sight.
  • Example: Think of Peter. When he looked at Jesus, he walked on water (Faith = Action). When he looked at the big waves, he started to sink (Sight) (Matthew 14:29-31).

What are some real-life examples of where we can “walk by faith”?

  • Give the kids opportunities to share. Then add the following:
    • You pray for help on a hard math test. You get to the first question and don't know the answer. Do you panic (Sight), or do you ask the Spirit for peace and clarity to do your best (Faith)?
    • You pray for a friend to get better, but they are still sick the next day. Faith means trusting God is still working even when the "sight" hasn't changed yet.
