Children's Church Lessons
Kids' Corner Pre-K - 2 Children's Church / Sunday School Lesson
Title: Easter Sunday / Resurrection: Follow Jesus to Our Forever Home
Verse: 1 Peter 1:3-4 NIV
“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade. This inheritance is kept in heaven for you.”
Objective: Kids will understand that Jesus resurrected and is the only way to lead us to our forever home in Heaven, where we will live together as God’s family.
Spark
The Mystery Box:
- Show the children a locked box. Tell them, "I put a picture of what we are learning about today inside, but there is only one way to open it!"
- Give the kids a blacklight flashlight to find hidden numbers on the tablecloth that unlock the box.
- Alternatively: Have the numbers written on paper and hidden around the room for the children to find. Give them clues to put the number code in order to “open” the box.
- Inside the box is a picture of a home.
Transition: Just like the code was the only way to open the box, Jesus is the only way to get to our forever home in Heaven!
Scripture: Open your Bible to 1 Peter 1:3-4.
- Read: 1 Peter 1:3-4 with emphasis on the words: resurrection, hope, and inheritance
- Explain:
- Resurrection: Use a plastic tablecloth to demonstrate "raising up." Explain that Jesus died and then resurrected (was raised up) into Heaven.
- Hope: Explain that our home on Earth is temporary (like one string on a rug), but Heaven is our forever home (like the whole rug)—it is much greater!
- Inheritance: When we follow Jesus, he leads us to our home in Heaven to live as God’s family.
Activities
Game: Keep It Up - Balloon game
- Use a balloon to play a game where the kids must keep the balloon "raised up" in the air, reinforcing the meaning of resurrection.
Craft: Forever Home
- Provide paper with the Bible verse on it. Kids hold a house stencil over the verse and color around it to reveal the shape of their forever home.
- Alternatively: Have the kids cut out pictures of a house to glue on the paper.
