Kids' Corner Pre-K-2 Grade Children's Church / Sunday School Lesson

Title: Taste and See that the Lord is Good!

Verse: Psalm 34:8, “Taste and see that the Lord is good…”

Objective: Kids will learn that God is good and wonderful—no matter what. Just like you can't truly know how sweet a watermelon or piece of candy tastes until you try it yourself, knowing Jesus is something we must experience for ourselves by choosing to follow Him!

Spark

Taste and See!

Hold up a slice of watermelon (or a wrapped piece of sweet candy/fruit snack).
Hold up the watermelon (or candy) so all the kids can see it.
Ask the class:
- Have you ever eaten candy or a juicy slice of watermelon?
- How would you describe what it tastes like? Is it sour? Salty? Sweet?

Say: I could stand here all day and talk for hours! I could tell you that watermelon is bright pink, super juicy, sweet, and delicious. But no matter how many words I use, do you actually know what it tastes like right now just by listening to me?
- Give them a moment to answer (No!).
Say: That's right! I can TELL you about it, but unless you taste it for yourself, you won't truly experience how good it is. It's the exact same way with knowing Jesus!

Scripture

Read: Open Bibles together to Psalm 34:8. Read the passage aloud to the class.

Explain: People can tell us about Jesus all day long. Your parents, your Sunday school teachers, and your friends can tell you: Jesus is Lord! He is King and He loves you! Jesus is kind! Jesus forgives us!

Hearing those things is great, but just like that sweet piece of candy, you have to experience Jesus for yourself!
How do we 'taste and see' that Jesus is good if He isn't a piece of food?
- Praying – Talking to Jesus directly and listening in our hearts.
- Thanking Him – For His Goodness, for food, having a family, having ears to hear the Gospel message, etc.
- Following Him – When we obey our parents we are obeying God – that is following Him. We can share, and love others. (Let the kids give examples of sharing – toys, taking turns, etc. Being kind – saying kind words, letting your sibling go first at the playground or letting them choose the tv show to watch, etc…)
- Trusting Him – When you feel scared or sad, you can talk to Jesus, and He will help you feel peaceful and safe. He is always there for you and will never leave you alone!
When you look for Jesus and follow Him, you learn that God is the absolute best—no matter what!

"is good!" (two big thumbs up!)

Say: I will taste and see that the Lord is good!
Prayer Focus: Thank the Lord that He is Good! Praise Him for all the ways that He cares for us. Tell Him that He is sweet and you will follow Him.

Materials / Supplies Needed:
