Jesus is the Truth! Pre-K-2 Lesson

Children's Church Lessons

Kids' Corner Pre-K - 2 Children's Church / Sunday School Lesson

Title: Jesus is the Truth

Verse: John 14:6, “Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life… .”

Additional verses: Hebrews 6:18, John 8:44

Objective: Kids will know that Jesus is the Truth and it is impossible for God to lie. They will understand that we can trust everything that the Bible says.

Spark

Game: True or False

  • Ask 5-10 True or False questions.
  • Have the kids move to one side of the room if the answer is “true” and the opposite side of the room if the answer is “false”.

Transition: We keep saying “true”. This leads to a very good question: What is truth?

Scripture

Let kids discuss and define “truth”. Lead the discussion to have the kids come to the conclusion that the truth is: fact, reality, certainty.

Open your bible to John 14:6 and read aloud:

Explain:

  • The Bible says Jesus is Truth. (“Jesus said: I am the way, the TRUTH, and the life.”)
  • If Jesus is the Truth – can He lie? (No!)
  • What about the Bible? Is the Bible truth?
    • There are 66 books in the Bible. It starts with the book of Genesis and ends with Revelations. How many of those do you think are true? (All of them! Jesus is the Word! He is Truth! Every book and every word in the Bible is true!)

Hebrews 6:18

  • The Bible says that “it is impossible for God to lie.”
  • He is the truth!
  • Who lies? (The devil.)

John 8:44

  • The Bible says that “the devil's language is lies, there is no truth in him.”
  • If we speak the truth we show ourselves to be with Jesus. When we speak lies we are speaking the devil's language.
  • What language do God's disciples (followers) speak? (Truth! God's language.)

Key Point: If Jesus is Truth and it is impossible for Him to lie, then how confident should we be that He will make good on every promise given? (100%! If He said it, He will do it! It’s impossible for God to lie.)

Activity

Game 1: Spot the Truth

  • Divide the class into 2 teams to earn points
  • Show two statements (Bible Facts) and ask the kids which is true.

Game 2: Guess the Language

  • Have different simple sentences translated in different languages on cards. Give the kids the language choices. Show a card with the sentence and the kids must decide which language is written.
    • Spanish
    • Hebrew
    • Chinese
    • Devil language (will show a lie - Ex: “I can never do anything right.”)
    • God’s language (will show the truth – Bible verse or Bible fact – “I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength.”)
