Children's Church Lessons
Kids' Corner Pre-K - 2 Children's Church / Sunday School Lesson
Title: Easter: Jesus is Alive!
Verse: Matthew 28:6, "He is not here; he has risen, just as he said…"
Objective: Kids will understand that He is risen and He is alive! This brings us joy because there is no other God that died for His people, rose again, and is always with us!
Spark: “This Stone is Heavy!”
Directions:
- Bring in a large rock or a heavy backpack.
- Make a big deal out of trying to pick it up showing how heavy it is.
- Ask a few kids to try and move it, while discussing how heavy it is and difficult to move.
Transition: Say: "The people who loved Jesus were very sad because they thought He was gone forever. They put Him in a tomb and covered it with a giant, heavy stone – even bigger and heavier than this one! It was too big for any person to move. But God is powerful and keeps His promises!"
Scripture: Open your Bible to Matthew 28:1-10.
- Read: The bible story and emphasize Matthew 28:6, "He is not here; he has risen, just as he said… ." Use simple actions to keep them engaged as you tell the story:
- The Walk: "Two friends named Mary went to visit Jesus' tomb early in the morning. They were walking slowly because they were sad." (Have kids march slowly in place).
- The Earthquake: "Suddenly—BOOM! The ground began to shake!" (Have kids wiggle and shake their bodies).
- The Angel: "A bright angel, shining like lightning, came down and rolled that heavy stone away like it was a toy! The guards were so scared they fainted!" (Have kids cover their eyes and then drop to the floor like the guards).
- The Good News: "The Angel told the women: 'Don't be afraid! Jesus isn't here. He is Risen!' Jesus was alive!" The women were excited and joyful because Jesus kept His promise.
- Ask:
- Who went to the tomb early in the morning? (Mary Magdalene and the other Mary – two friends of Jesus).
- When the angel came down, what happened to the ground? Did it stay still or did it shake like an earthquake? (It shook! – Have the kids shake their bodies again for fun).
- What did the angel's clothes look like? Were they dark and messy, or white as snow? (White as snow and bright like lightning!)
- The angel told the women, "He is not here." Why wasn't Jesus in the tomb anymore? (Because He is ALIVE! He has risen! )
- When the women ran to tell the disciples the good news, who did they meet on the way? (Jesus, because He is alive!)
- How do you think the women felt about meeting Jesus? (They were excited and joyful because God kept His promise to rise again – no one else, no other God ever did this and never will again because He is the One, true God.

Game: Hide the Cross (Hot or Cold)
Explain: Just like the women looked for Jesus at the tomb, we can celebrate when we "find" the truth that He is alive!
- Hide a cross in the room.
- One child looks for it while the others yell "Hot!" when they are close or "Cold!" when they are far away.
Live
Say: Jesus is no longer on the cross and He is no longer in the tomb. He keeps His promises – He is RISEN! Have the kids shout together: "Jesus is Alive!"
Prayer Focus: Thank the Lord for sending His son and for going to the cross for our sins so that we can have eternal life with Him. He is the only God who died and rose again.
